Land Restoration of Kayu Madang Landfill

Objective: Restore degraded land areas, such as Kayu Madang landfill, through responsible waste management and upcycling efforts.
Actions:

  • Work with scavengers and local authorities to reduce the environmental impact of landfills by removing and recycling waste materials.

  • Reforest and rehabilitate areas affected by waste accumulation, involving the community in these efforts.

  • Promote these initiatives as part of LJD's commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable development in Sabah.

Plastic Waste Management and Upcycling

Objective: Reduce plastic waste in Sabah by collecting, sorting, and upcycling plastic materials into valuable products.
Actions:

  • Establish and expand mini recycling centers in key communities like Kampung Kepayan Baru.

  • Collaborate with scavengers to recover plastic waste from landfills, compensating them for their efforts.

  • Conduct workshops to educate the public on recycling practices and promote upcycling as an income-generating activity.

  • Develop a product line of recycled plastic items, including accessories, handbags, and furniture, created by marginalized communities.

Community Empowerment through Sustainable Livelihoods

Objective: Empower marginalized communities in Sabah, including single mothers, housewives, and villagers, to achieve sustainable incomes through eco-friendly practices.
Actions:

  • Provide training on creating marketable products from recycled materials, such as keychains, brooches, and fashion items.

  • Launch cooperative initiatives to involve community members in the production and sale of upcycled goods.

  • Establish a brand for these products, showcasing the talents of young Sabahan designers and artisans.
